all day long the sky had been getting cloudy, more and more, thickening hour by hour; substantial air: you could touch and grab and hold it air within your fingers.
lightning, behind the clouds or drowned into them, inflamed the sky of a diaphanous electric blue: color's osmosis deep in the sky. And then, suddenly it happened: flashes, first few of them then all in their disarming violence, cracked the wet dense barrier and filtered out from the clouds and seized their reign and the first drops started falling down.
